the power of one plus great news from don mark

A few days ago, my granddaughter came home from school upset. For no good reason – though there are no qualified reasons to do what these kids were doing – several students in her history class decided they didn’t like their teacher. Their resolution to their issues was to establish a hate group on Instagram vomiting hurtful words, lies, and taunting him. He is my granddaughter’s favorite teacher.

He served twenty-nine years in the military and went to war. He is the real deal, a genuine quality teacher who tells the truth and holds students accountable for their actions. He loves teaching. These shameless middle-schoolers decided it would be even more fun to show him the Instagram page which they did.

Later in the day my granddaughter noticed him sitting alone, head in his hands, in his classroom looking at the posts. She thought he might even be crying. My noble young lady walked up to the desk and apologized for her classmate’s foolishness. She explained that he is her favorite teacher and how much she likes him as person. She then stood up for her teacher to the miscreants.

Fortunately, the school principal learned of this stunt and publicly reprimanded the children and made their parents aware of the situation.

That night, my daughter and son-in-law took her to Target, bought her teacher a card, gift card and his favorite candy bar. Then they all wrote him a note of encouragement. She gave him the gift at school the next day.

That evening, they received a thank-you note from their teacher including many compliments to both my granddaughter and her parents. He explained that this gesture meant volumes to him and encouraged him to keep making a difference in people’s lives, even when some do not appreciate it.

This true story reminds me that one person of character can make a huge difference in many lives. Standing up to and then backing down cowardly misdeeds through compassion and love is as admirable as it gets. May we all have such courage! Great job granddaughter!

As I have indicated, I planned to start a YouTube Channel and post helpful and inspiring videos there. My YouTube Channel is up and running!

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by Dr. Tracey Jones, President and CEO of Tremendous Leadership. Tracey does an ongoing podcast called, “Leaders On Leadership.”  I was honored to provide my thoughts on “The Price of Leadership.” Please check it out. I think you will find it helpful.

You will also find past videos of Gail and I filmed for the YWCA. They will inspire you to live your best self no matter what the circumstances.
